Catherine the Great was one Tsarina who loved to cook instead of leaving it for “the help” to do. Most of the recipes in her book “What’s Cookin’ with Kate” were developed by her and our neighbor Lulu Schlausneberg in Lulu’s split level of Spyglass Drive.
Grandpa and Uncle Lestor always loved to talk about when Catherine the Great made a surprise visit on Boxing Day, 1950.
Catherine the Great never missed Aunt Agnes and Uncle Ted’s New Year’s potluck. Everyone agreed her black eyed pea borscht paired beautifully with Agnes’ pimento-cream cheese log with coconut flake frosting.
It was always a bit of a mystery that for all the challenges with her own kids, Catherine the Great was such a dream when she took Little Cousin Mimi into the City to return that Tonka Truck her Cousin Billy gave her that year.
